Thousands of students getting nervous about the upcoming result release date of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) and the students are also preparing for their articulation pathways. The School of Health Sciences of Caritas Institute of Higher Education (CIHE) and the Department of Health Sciences of Caritas Bianchi College of Careers (CBCC) are also ready for the students. Both schools received significant growth in the applications number, around sixteen thousand application forms have been received by both schools. Some programmes with professional entitlement, such as physiotherapy, enrolled nursing, etc., have received a competitive enrollment rate of around 66 students who are competing for 1 place.
Prof Eric CHAN, Dean of the School of Health Sciences pointed out the rapid increase in application numbers not only reflected the public's recognition of the qualification to the CIHE and CBCC Healthcare-related programmes but would also be an indicator that the healthcare industries are craving talents. Prof CHAN believed, with the increase in healthcare-related programmes and the intake numbers, would relieve short-handed industries in the short coming future.
In considering the potential talents who may obtain a 33222 or even less desirable result from the HKDSE, but still wish to develop their careers as healthcare professionals, the CBCC is now offering the 1 Year Diploma of Health Sciences (DipHS) programme which aims to equip foundation knowledge to the students who are aiming to be a part of the healthcare industries.
The DipHS Programme offers 120 places for those who have completed Secondary Six, and obtained at least Level 1 in both Chinese Language and English Language.
Mr Dominic LEE, CIHE's Associate Director (Admission, Careers and Public Affairs) reinstated the DipHS programme has established clear and heretical articulation or career pathway. Students who completed the programme could find diversified pathways, for instance, graduates of the DipHS programme could pursue a higher diploma with an abundant choice of Higher Diploma in Pharmaceutical Dispensing (HDPD) or Higher Diploma in Health Care (HDHC) which graduates of these two higher diploma programmes could become a professional dispenser and healthcare workers respectively.
If students wish to proceed further to become registered nurses, graduates of these higher diploma programmes may find their place with the Bachelor of Nursing (Applied Degree Places) (BNAD) programme or find their ways to become executives of healthcare settings by enrolling Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) (Part-time Top-up Programme) (BHS) programme.
LEE advised students could go with their flow when facing the release of DSE results. With the provision of abundant entry points, students with different could also meet their next target in obtaining a degree and professional recognition. And students can therefore aim to reach higher ground in the later stage.
