Sharing of the Student from the First Batch of the Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) (Applied Degree Places) Programme

06 Dec 2022

Caritas Institute of Higher Education ( "CIHE" ) was invited to be one of the institutes to join the Pilot Project on the Development of Applied Degree Programmes. ("pilot Programmes") in 2021,  The Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) (Applied Degree places) Programme ("BNAD programme") is one of programme invited in the first batch of the pilot programme rolled out in this academic year with a provision of 120 places.

Feeling challenged in the nursing and healthcare sector, Stephanie NG enrolled in the BNAD Programme and is now spending her first year with the CIHE.  Passionate about science subjects since her high school era, Stephanie aimed to be a professional nurse and commenced her pathway to be a professional.

Despite obtaining a less desirable result during the HKDSE exam, Stephanie, with a strong desire of being a registered nurse, stands fast for her articulation pathway. She first went for a Higher Diploma in Enrolled Nursing at an institute.  Upon completion, unsatisfied with being an enrolled nurse, Stephanie continues to seek her advancement by approaching the CIHE and she eventually made it.

Stephanie heard that the CIHE's nursing programmes are renowned for the well-qualified and dedicated teaching staff.

Taking the advantage of flexibility in the 3.5 years applied degree programme, Stephanie, as an associated degree holder, can enjoy certain credit exemption from her preceding studies, and thus she could complete her entire bachelor's study within 5 years, which is equal to a direct entry to the general nursing degree programme.  The BNAD programme is also a programme subsidised under Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP).

These tempting reasons, therefore, droved Stephanie, who had obtained two different offers from other institutes at the time, determined to join life in CIHE.

With her pink working clothes on, Stephanie is now having her nursing development in CIHE and spends most of her time in the nursing laboratories. She is impressed by the regulation of wearing working clothes and scrubs during their courses, which could enhance the students' engagement and familiarisation with their future workplaces.

The helping hands from the teachers of the CIHE encouraged Stephanie to proceed further, and she is now planning to become a specialist nurse after her graduation. At the same time, peer assistances also take an important part in Stephanie's campus life, the helpful seniors would also guide Stephanie, for example, by lending Obstetrics and Gynaecology related materials and readings for her per-class preparations, so that she could get well and through learning when in class.

Using her own experience as an example, Stephanie remarks on those who are now having their sub-degree studies and wish to proceed the way to the healthcare industry. "Don't get frustrated with your current situation, you will finally get your goal in obtaining professional qualifications and your degrees if you aim your target in getting into a degree programme."
