Innovative Incubation Centre (IIC) was established by CIHE & CBCC

CIHE's & CBCC's annual Design Week was held on 27 July to 2 August 2022. During the opening ceremony, the establishment of the Innovative Incubation Centre (IIC) on CBCC campus was announced, aiming to combine academic learning and research with industry insights to provide mentoring at the early stage of entrepreneurship of students and alumni across subject areas, and to accelerate their transformation process with financial, networking, and promotion support.

The IIC was established with a donation of $50 million from Wise Life Technologies Limited with a vision to foster the relationship between the institute and the design industry, and contribute to the creative community at large.

Students and alumni are now able to join the very first "IIC Make It Happen Competition" organised by IIC in collaboration with CIHE's Rita Tong Liu School of Business and Hospitality Management, CBCC's Department of Design, and the Institutes' Career Centre. The competition intends to nurture aspiring young entrepreneurs as future leaders in their endeavors, create social, cultural, and economic impact through select incubation projects, generate new ideas, learning, and industry insights to inform teaching, research and potential enterprise activities, promote entrepreneurship and cross-disciplinary incubation practices in CIHE and CBCC, develop multifaceted collaboration with external stakeholders and industry partners, and strengthen innovative young entrepreneurs in wealth and social value creation through sustaining their own enterprises.

Eligible contestants include current and incoming full-time / part-time students and alumni of CIHE & CBCC. Proposal can be submitted by an individual contestant or a team of 5 or less, with each contestant / group submitting a maximum of 2 proposals. The proposals will be judged under the criteria of innovation, marketability, sustainability, and cultural and environmental awareness.

Seed funding, rent-free co-working space, entrepreneurship coaching, seminars, workshops, and marketing and promotion support will be provided to the winner. Proposals must be submitted to iic@cihe.edu.hk on or before 1 Sept 2022, with a completed online application form. Finalists will be notified on mid-September, and final pitching will be held on mid-October. For more details, please refer to the website.

Meanwhile, about 160 secondary students from 13 schools attended the Annual Design Week 2022 of CBCC Department of Design, with the theme "Designer's Journey". Onsite activities include exhibition of Graphic Design and Interior Architecture students, film screening of and Film and Media Production students, Graduation Fashion Show of Fashion Design students, and design workshops and alumni sharing.

The Opening Ceremony of Design Week was held in the afternoon of 27 July, with the presence of honourable guests including Professor Annie BLIGH, Provost of CIHE & CBCC, Mr Tenky TIN Kai-man, former president of the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers, Mr Tony CHOW Kwok-chung, the Professional Spirit Award winner in the 40th Hong Kong Film Awards, Mr Tekkie YEUNG Yat-tak, Vice president of the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers, and Mr Albert LEE, the donor to the IIC.

Year 2 Fashion Design student, Wendy LAM Hei-man, has won the Golden Award during the Fashion Show. She also co-winner of the Creative Award offered by the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association, together with another student Karlie LEUNG Kam-ling.

Three workshops for secondary school students were organised by the Department of Design on 28 July, focusing on Fashion, Graphic Design and Film Production respectively. Exhibition of students' design work were also held over the whole period of Design Week in the lobby of CIHE's Tseung Kwan O campus.
