Introduction
In September 2009, the Department of General Education and Language Studies (GELS) was formed through the amalgamation of three bodies: the Language Unit of Caritas Bianchi College of Careers, the General Education Unit and the Department of Language Studies, both of Caritas Institute of Higher Education (formally known as Caritas Francis Hsu College). GELS is also responsible for the operation of the Language Corner (in the Library of the Caine Road Campus) and the Language Centre (in the Library of the Tseung Kwan O Campus). Since March 2010, an online interactive language and course registration system has been established by the Department to facilitate language training and General Education (GE) course registration. Students from both campuses are able to log onto the system and make appointments with native language tutors for intensive language training.
